What is a mentor? A mentor is a friend and a support to a child/young adult. A mentor also is someone who reinforces the positive values set up by the child's parents, guardians and teachers. In no way does a mentor replace these individuals.

What does a mentor do? A mentor brings out the best in young people, whether it's through listening, giving advice, sharing their time or simply leading by example.

How does a mentor help a mentee? A mentor may help a young person in countless ways, including planning a project for school, setting career goals and taking steps to realize them, making healthy choices about everyday life and thinking through a problem at home or at school.

Why should I become a mentor? Mentors help strengthen their communities by teaching children how to make the right decisions in life. Decisions that will help them grow to be valuable employees and citizens, who contribute to our businesses and communities for the better. Studies show that mentored teens are 46% less likely to get into drugs, 59% more likely to get better grades and 73% more likely to raise their goals. Your community is better off when you take time to mentor a young person. Mentors also provide safe places and structured activities during non-school hours, give children a healthy start in life, play up children's marketable skills through effective education and teach children the value of giving back through community service.
With life's daily demands, including family and work constraints, how much of my time is needed to become a mentor? Fortunately, if you can make some time for mentoring, we can work with you. There are a variety of mentoring opportunities, each with its own schedule. Give us a call at 256.582.8113 to learn about opportunities in your area. You decide which ones best fit your gifts of time and love.
